Chief: 3 Middletown firefighters suffer minor injuries fighting vacant house fire

Three Middletown firefighters suffered minor injuries Sunday night battling a house fire, said Fire Chief Paul Lolli.

He said two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and one partially fell through a floor of a vacant house in the 2000 block of Pearl Street.

Firefighters received the call at 8:52 p.m. Sunday and were on scene until 5 a.m. Monday, Lolli said.

The cause of the fire has been listed as “incendiary in nature,” though the investigation continues, Lolli said. He said the house was vacant and the fire could have been set by squatters who were cooking or arsonists.

He estimated the damage at $15,000. Lolli said the house was divided into four apartments.

Middletown received mutual aid from Monroe, Trenton and Franklin, Lolli said.
