Aarianna Melvin, 21, identified as the children’s mother, will be arraigned Friday in Dayton Municipal Court. She was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of felony drug possession and child endangering, a misdemeanor.

Police searched Melvin’s Midway Avenue residence, where the children were believed to have overdosed. Inside, police said they found suspected dangerous drugs and called for a Hazmat team.

“It was then discovered there was a hazardous situation in the residence due to fentanyl being present,” according to a Dayton police statement. “After evidence was collected, housing inspectors declared the residence uninhabitable and coordination was made to have a qualified hazardous materials clean up company respond to clean the residence.”
A neighbor living near the Midway Avenue residence told News Center 7’s Mike Campbell he saw a car leave the apartment shortly before the children were taken to the hospital from the fire station.

“One driving had the baby and I don’t know, the other child might be walkable,” Earl Clark said.
The two children remain in the hospital; however, their ages and conditions are not known.
