CHS Marching Band performs ‘Every Which Way’

CENTERVILLE — The Centerville High School Marching Band is enjoying a successful year. It won the Kings Invitational in September and placed second at the Bands of America Regional competition in Kettering earlier this month.

The band, which has 182 students, is directed by Brandon Barrometti.

Barrometti oversees all of the school’s music programs — including three concert bands, three jazz ensembles, Winter Drumline and Winter Guard, as well as a pit orchestra for the theater’s musical productions — and also directs the Wind Symphony, Concert Band and Basketball Pep Band.

Barrometti said the marching band’s competition show this year is very challenging.

“This year’s show is titled ‘Every Which Way,’ ” he said. “We are basically trying to present a marching band show in as many different ways as possible.”

Barrometti said the show has many varying styles and a variety of visual representations, such as musicians facing in different directions while playing and ladders facing “every which way.”

CHS is hosting its invitational at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Barrometti said 23 bands from three states are scheduled to compete.

“In the past, we have done a preliminaries/finals format, but this year we are doing a ‘one-time’ show,” said Barrometti, noting that the Centerville band will perform in exhibition at 9:45 p.m. “You should expect to see some pretty amazing performances, since this is a late-season show.”

The band’s season continues until the Bands of America Grand National Championships Nov. 10-13 in Indianapolis. It also will perform at Disney World from Nov. 19-27 in Disney’s Magic Music Days.
