Cincinnati police officer shot in exchange with suspect

A police officer in Cincinnati is recovering after being involved in an exchange of gunfire with a domestic violence suspect early this morning.

The officer and suspect were shot and taken to the hospital where they underwent surgery, according to our news partner WCPO-TV Channel 9 in Cincinnati.

Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. at an apartment building on Gilbert Avenue. Police tell WCPO officers responded to a domestic violence call and encountered the suspect outside the apartment building. A witness reported hearing a series of shots from two distinct guns.

Those involved have not been identified.
