Clark County Sheriff selects next chief deputy

Clark County Sheriff Deborah Burchett has selected a Springfield police lieutenant to succeed former Chief Deputy Travis Russell, after Russell resigned from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Friday amid an investigation and after two grievances were filed against him.

“The sheriff has chosen a new chief deputy and it’s going to be Chief Deputy (Jeff) Meyer from the city of Springfield,” said Maj. Gary Cox with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Cox could not provide any additional details on the hiring, however said he will be sworn into office on April 9.
