A Celina woman diagnosed with coronavirus gave birth to her son last week after an emergency C-section, family members told local media outlets.

Megan Sites is a healthy, non-smoking 27-year-old, her brother Shaun Jeffries told WDTN. And as a nurse, she knew the danger of coronavirus.

Her battle started on March 27 with a cold and fever, he said to WHIO.

Sites’ condition worsened within 24 hours and her health continued to decline once in the hospital.

Jeffries’ wife, Kacie, told WDTN that Sites lungs were failing, so at 29 weeks pregnant, she had an emergency C-section.

Sites was sedated and and put on an ECMO machine, which pumps and oxygenates blood and pumps it through the body. It’s typically used to give a person’s lungs or heart time to recover.

As of Tuesday night, she was sedated and on a ventilator.

Her son is doing well and tested negative for coronavirus twice, Kacie told WDTN. Sites’ husband Donny was able to hold their son three days after he was born, but Megan doesn’t even know that she’s given birth.

The family is waiting to name the newborn at the time and are continuing to hope for Megan’s recovery.
