Coronavirus: $98K in grants awarded to Dayton-area groups giving emergency aid

The COVID-19 Response Fund for Greater Dayton announced $98,000 in grants were awarded to five groups providing emergency and basic needs for people impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The following organizations and institutions received grants:

• Central State University: $5,000 to help provide food, personal hygiene supplies and transportation to students who would otherwise be homeless.

• Pink Ribbon Girls: $10,000 to help provide transportation to patients seeking breast and gynecological cancer treatment.

• St. Vincent de Paul Social Services: $50,000 to help buy food and hand-washing stations for the Women & Families and Men's shelters.

• Wesley Community Center, fiscal agent for Dayton Cooks!: $27,000 to help provide evening meals to children and senior citizens.

• Yellow Springs Home: $6,000 to help provide food, toiletries and other basic human needs for low-income residents.

The fund is through The Dayton Foundation and the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area in partnership with the Mathile Family Foundation, Montgomery County, The Physicians’ Charitable Foundation of the Miami Valley and Sinclair Community College.

On Tuesday, organizations announced the first round of awards, which totaled $70,500.

The COVID-19 Response Fund for Greater Dayton has awarded $168,500 in grants so far.

The fund is aimed at helping nonprofit organizations that help with immediate, basic needs including food, housing, mental health and safety in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Organizations can apply for grants at www.dayotnfoundation.org or www.dayton-unitedway.org.

A distribution committee is reviewing applications at an on-going basis to meet immediate needs.

To donate, visit www.daytonfoundation.org. The Dayton Foundation is paying credit card processing fees and is waiving administration fees to allow all donations to go the fund.

The Dayton Foundation’s office is closed until April 6 and postal mail will not be received until after that date. Any check donations mailed to the foundation will be processed as soon as possible once the stay-at-home order is lifted.
