Coronavirus: Waffle House closes 365 locations in US, dozen in Miami Valley

Waffle House has announced that it is closing 365 of its locations across the United States, including several in Ohio.

The restaurant posted the graphic above to its Twitter and Facebook pages, with the only comment being “#WaffleHouseIndexRed: 365 Waffle House restaurants closed. 1,627 open.”

This closure affects about a dozen Waffle House restaurants in the Dayton, Hamilton and Springfield areas, each of which are listed as “Temporarily Closed” on the restaurant’s website.

The hashtag “WaffleHouseIndexRed” refers to the Waffle House Index, which is an informal test for how bad a disaster is, based on whether the local Waffle House is open.

Green means the store is open with a full menu, yellow means a reduced menu, and red means it is closed. The test has been associated with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA.
