County to test 12-hour shifts for dispatchers

Dispatchers at the Miami County Communication Center could participate in a trial of a 12-hour shift set up beginning the first of the year.

The center’s board of directors voted Wednesday to recommend the county commissioners approve a proposed memorandum of understanding with the center collective bargaining unit to allow for the 12-hour shifts for 12 pay periods ending June 30, 2015. The employees currently work eight-hour shifts. Jeff Busch, center director, said the staff requested the 12-hour shift trial period.

A 12-hour shift trial also will begin Jan. 3 for county sheriff’s office correction officers, Chief Deputy Dave Duchak said. Under the agreement with the correction officers’ union, that trial will last three months. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
