The duplex was vacant, and when firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring out all the windows, Battalion Chief Capt. Matt Davis of the Springfield Division of Fire said.
Clay Street was blocked while crews battle the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
