Fire crews were dispatched to the 8800 block on reports of a structure fire with people trapped inside around 2 a.m., per initial reports.
Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames once they arrived on scene.
They also immediately entered the house and rescued the male resident after it was confirmed that one of the two occupants were still inside.
He was transported to an area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, fire officials said.
The home is uninhabitable for the night and both residents, as well as the dogs have been relocated.
Fire investigators are working to determine how the fire started though unconfirmed reports indicate it may have resulted from an unattended cigarette, per emergency scanner traffic.
Fire officials say there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
Dayton, Fairborn, Riverside, and Wright-Patterson fire departments assisted at the scene.
