Charges dropped in Poinciana Drive shooting

The charges against Robert J. Campbell III have been dismissed, according to court records. The state did not have enough evidence to support the charges, according to the court. Campbell III had been charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Police said the shooting was motivated by a property dispute.

The victim, Campbell’s brother, is doing better than expected.

Detectives will meet with the prosecutor’s office on Friday.

EARLIER REPORT

A 28-year-old Union man called 911 Wednesday night to say he shot his brother in the chest inside an apartment in Centerville, police said.

  • Robert J. Campbell III was arrested at the scene.
  • Campbell has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of felonious assault.
  • Campbell told dispatchers his brother attacked him, according to 911 audio.

His 24-year-old brother was taken by Washington Twp. medics to Kettering Medical Center for treatment of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim, who police did not identify, suffered injuries believed to be life threatening, according to Centerville Police Public Information Officer John Davis.

Crews were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to an apartment located at 12 Poinciana Drive for a reported shooting.

The shooting remains under investigation.
