Crews battle massive house fire in Dayton

Update@6:25 a.m.:

The house was vacant and all of the utilities were turned off, and there were no injuries, said District Chief David Wright of the Dayton Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived at the scene the structure was fully involved, with heavy flames on the second level, he said. Crews initially entered the building to attempt to extinguish the fire from the inside, but the heat was intense and they exited.

They put out the fire a short time later and searched the house to ensure no one was inside when the fire started, Wright said.

Firefighters have not determined the cost of the damage, but Wright said the roof was destroyed and the second floor is heavily damaged.

Wright said he believes the fire is suspicious, but there will be an investigation to determine the cause.
