UPDATE @ 7:35 a.m: Officials estimate damages to be approximately $5,000 after a kitchen fire occurred at a duplex on Germantown Pike Wednesday morning.

Fire crews responded to a unit in the 4400 block around 6 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.
A preliminary investigation revealed the fire started in the kitchen and spread.
Only the unit where the blaze occurred was affected.
All of the occupants were able to escape without injury.

Initial reports indicate a kitchen fire occurred in the 4400 block around 6 a.m.
The incident was upgraded to a working fire after heavy smoke was coming from the structure.
