Dance remembers 2 4H victims killed in crashes 7 years apart

SPRINGBORO — Amy K. Dorn and Karol L. Stegemoller, Warren County 4-H supporters who died in traffic crashes seven years apart, will be remembered at a dance on Friday, July 17, at Springboro High School.

“Both of those young ladies were camp counselors” at Camp Graham, the area summer camp to benefit from the dance, Warren County 4-H Educator Kara Colvin said.

Both also attended Springboro High School. Dorn was a 2005 graduate.

On Feb. 22, 2002, Stegemoller, 17, a senior at the school, was pronounced dead at the scene after her Jeep went left of center and collided head-on with a pick-up along U.S. 50 near McArthur in Vinton County.

Dorn, 22, of Lebanon, and Aaron M. Adams, 26, of Waynesville, died instantly on June 27, after the motorcycle Adams was driving was struck by a pick-up crossing the centerline on Ohio 123 in Turtlecreek Twp.

Dorn and Stegemoller were both active in 4H.

“They grew up in the horse program,” Colvin said.

Dorn had applied to become an adult adviser with Los Vaqueros, a horse club run by her mother, Wendy Davis. Stegemoller was also active in a mule and donkey program started in Ohio by her parents, Kenneth C. and Betty L. (Wieda) Stegemoller.

Proceeds from the $5 dance will go to benefit future 4-H participants and memorial funds set up in both of the victims’ names, Davis said. The dance is to begin at 7 p.m., Friday, at the high school, 1675 S. Main St. (Ohio 741) in Springboro.
