Dayton Metro Library branches to reopen in July with limited hours

All Dayton Metro Library branch locations will reopen in July with limited hours and services, but curbside pickup will continue for those who wish to keep using the service.

Libraries will open July 7 and operate Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Branches will be closed Sunday and Monday.

“Our plans remain flexible and subject to change as we reinstitute library services,” said Tim Kambitsch, executive director. “As much as we try to anticipate all scenarios, we know that the situation is constantly evolving. Library leadership will continue to monitor trends, while our staff and visitors will play an important role in ensuring and adjusting safety protocols, as necessary.”

Public computers, printers, copiers and collections will be available, but meeting and tutor rooms will remain closed at this time.

In-person programming, such as classes and story times, will not take place. Outside groups are not able to use or reserve library meeting spaces at this time.

The is taking the following health precautions to keep staff and patrons safe:

  • Staff will wear masks and disposable masks will be available for patrons who need one
  • The first hour each day, 10 to 11 a.m., will be reserved for the elderly and medically-compromised persons
  • Building capacities will be limited
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available
  • Plexiglas dividers have been installed at public service desks
  • Computer stations have been distanced from each other
  • Staff will disinfect public equipment and work stations between uses
  • Social distancing and other safety protocols will be followed

Curbside pickup will be available during hours of operation. Returned materials will be quarantined for 72 hours before they are available for borrowing.

Gaming systems and toys, games and art supplies for children are not available at this time.
