Well, apparently the end is nowhere in sight because on the Dec. 30 episode of "Jeopardy!," Johnny Saunders, a retired convenience store manager from Dallas, TX, was faced with the following answer:
"THE NATIONAL AVIATION HALL OF FAME WAS FOUNDED IN 1962 IN THIS CITY, THE BIRTHPLACE OF AVIATION."
Saunders' reply?
"What is Kitty Hawk?"
Saunders found the Daily Double in the “Aviation” category under the $800 clue. He was in the lead with $5,000, but bet $1,000 on his guess, and, obviously lost it.
He would go on to win the episode, but that doesn't excuse his flub.
Sure, you can blame it on the state's license plate, which tends to confuse many out-of-towners (including Marco Rubio and the entire state of Connecticut, apparently), but facts are facts. And the fact of the matter is, Dayton is the undisputed heavyweight champion when it comes to aviation.
Surely even Alex Trebek knows that.
