Dayton Shooting: Man called hero for shielding girlfriend from gunfire | Watch video

Businesses are back open in the Oregon District Tuesday with all sorts of symbols of the violence remaining.

In the district, there’s a mix of business as usual and people coming to pay their respects.

News Center 7’s Sean Cudahy was in Dayton this afternoon and spoke with a man some are calling a hero.

Camryn Crowder, of Miamisburg says he was very close to the gunfire that broke out early Sunday morning.

“I turn my head and I see some guy pointing a gun.”

Crowder was a man in the surveillance video that pushed his girlfriend to the ground to protect her from bullets he says were flying by.

“Just to make sure she didn’t get hit,” he said. “I was pretty much prepared for it. I was just praying like you know, whatever happens, happens at this point.”

The video has all sorts of friends messaging Crowder saying he’s a hero.

“I don’t event think I was a hero, just doing what I was supposed to do.”
