Demand for Flyers Sweet 16 merchandise soars

The Flyer Spirit store on Brown Street is having a tough time keeping Sweet 16 shirts in stock, as the demand for all things Flyer-related soars.

The Dayton Flyers advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament for the first time in 30 years. The Flyers will play Stanford at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in Memphis, Tenn.

The store sold out of its first shipment of Sweet 16 shirts in less than an hour, with students, alumni and other fans eager to show their support for the team.

When the store received a new shipment of Sweet 16 shirts Monday night, store director Julie Banks made the decision to open an hour earlier on Tuesday to accommodate Flyer fans.

One shopper was Susan Herrmann of Oakwood.

"My husband and I both went to UD and both my kids went to UD ... and we live in Oakwood, real close to UD, so we've always supported the University of Dayton," she said.
