Miamisburg’s bicentennial celebrations this year will give the city a chance to spotlight changes and improvements in the downtown area.

That district will be a focal point of many activities, as the organizers of the 200th birthday festivities have planned monthly events throughout 2018. The centerpiece will be from June 16-23, when bicentennial committee members have planned eight straight days of entertainment and activities.

Here are five new things to know for those who have not frequented downtown Miamisburg in a few years or more, but may plan to check it in 2018:

- Great Miami River access has been improved. A canoe/kayak launching point – Case Landing – is west of the river next to the Linden Avenue bridge.

- A Brewery District is part of downtown. The two microbreweries - Lucky Star Brewery and the Star City Brewery - are within walking distance of a number of other restaurants, night spots and eateries in the business district.

- Riverfront Park improvements are being made. A $1.6 million project to increase access to the park – which will be a focal point of bicentennial activities - started last year and are expected to be completed this spring.

- More free parking has been added in the downtown. The work at Riverfront Park includes improvements to parking lots at both ends of the site. Also, in recent years the city has acquired land and added free spots.
