MIDDLETOWN — For the owners of a new full-service salon in this city’s downtown, timing is everything.
Middletown native Lynn Tufts opened Tufts of Hair Beauty Salon at 1039 Central Ave. along with husband David the same day his 25-year career at Ahlstrom West Carrollton came to an end.
“I took the buyout, put the money together and we started this,” he said. “It’s something we’d been talking about for a while. It’s just a dream come true. We were blessed to find it.”
Lynn Tufts has been cutting hair since she was 18 and started working at haircutting businesses 10 years ago when she got her license.
“We looked at a lot of places and this had everything I wanted,” she said.
Serving both women and men, salon options include haircut, style, color, highlights, perm and more. Roller sets are available.
All haircuts cost $10 this month as part of a grand opening special.
The salon also offers eyebrow waxing, lip waxing, manicures and pedicures.
WiFi is available and tanning beds will be installed later this month. Facials will be offered starting next month and other options will be added based on community demand.
Being a hairdresser means getting to meet new people and learn about their lives, Lynn Tufts said.
“You get close to your clients,” she said. “You worry about them, you pray for them when they’re sick. I actually had a couple of clients, that when they had surgery and couldn’t get out, I’d go to their house and do their hair. Just anything to help them.”
Zee Whitaker of Middletown, who works downtown, said she was happily surprised at the price she was quoted for a wash, blow dry and curl.
Janet Chase of Madison Twp. said Tufts of Hair delivered a good haircut at a good price with an added perk.
“I live in Madison Twp. so coming downtown was very convenient for me,” Chase said.
