A drug drop-off box is now available in the lobby of the Washington Twp. Government Center located at 8200 McEwen Road. Deposits can be made any time Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

This drop-off box is for old medications that can be disposed safely, according to a release. The secure metal box can be used to dispose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, including narcotics, herbals, and even veterinary medications.

Needles, sharp containers, and liquids are not accepted, but residents of Centerville-Washington Twp. can take these to the township’s periodic Super Saturday events where all types of prescription and over-the-counter medications are accepted.

Medications are stored by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office until they are collected for safe disposal by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

“These efforts help prevent medications from getting into the hands of children or into waterways,” said Township Law Enforcement Director Capt. Mike Brem. “They also prevent people who enter your home from finding and abusing them.”
