The Dayton Daily News reports that the dentist in the center of the storm of controversy surrounding the Dayton Veterans Hospital Dental Clinic is denying the accusations against him. Dr. Dwight Penberton says co-workers accused him of violating established sanitation protocols and exposing hundreds if not thousands of patients to serious infectious diseases did so to get at the clinic's supervisor Dr. Andrew Mesaros. Pemberton tells Ben Southerly of the Dayton Daily News that his co-workers "all had axes to grind" and that making accusations against him "would make Mesaros look bad ... It worked." The two dental lab technicians whose allegations ignited the controversy deny that their allegations were ultimately aimed at bringing down Dr. Mesaros. Mesaros declined comment.
