NEWPORT, Ky. — A shopping and entertainment lifestyle center that helped to spur the makeover of the Northern Kentucky riverfront is celebrating its 10th birthday in September.
Newport on the Levee — consisting of the Newport Aquarium, the Funny Bone Comedy Club and Jefferson Hall among other establishments — will host a series of events for guests, ranging from a weekend of dance classes and circus workshops to live music and a Taste of the Levee.
The events are not only to celebrate the Levee’s birthday but to thank folks for their patronage, said Christy Gloyd, marketing director of Newport on the Levee.
“(Patrons) will find a fun, vibrant atmosphere of people walking around, animators entertaining and people just enjoying themselves,” Gloyd said. “The Levee always wants people to have a positive experience and come back for more.”
This weekend at the Levee is themed “Dancing at the Levee,” which includes happy hour Arthur Murray dances classes Thursday. More dance classes to the tunes of Leroy Ellington and the E-Funk Band are slated for Saturday, and a circus workshop for families followed with music by Holly Spears of MTV’s “Making the Video” fame Sunday.
The entertainment hub follows up with “Jazz on the Levee,” Sept. 16-18, featuring some of the region’s best jazz combos and ensembles, and “Taste of the Levee Sept. 23-25, offering even more live music while Levee goers may sample the wide variety of food and drink available at the Levee.
It’s all part of one big birthday party on the banks of the Ohio, Gloyd said.
“The Levee really wants to thank patrons for 10 amazing years and invite them to come down and celebrate with us,” she said.
