Now is the time to get your home ready as cold weather and winter conditions are coming up.

News Center 7's Katy Andersen explains what to do so your home doesn't end up damaged.

Winter storms can be a threat to trees, causing them to crash down onto homes or cars.

“You don’t want to wake up one morning and a big limb be on your house or car,” Darrel Smith, owner of Aaron’s Tree and Landscaping Services, said.

“Usually you get big ice storms, you get busted limbs and broken limbs because they get overloaded.”

Smith said now is the best time to inspect your trees to make sure they can withstand a winter storm.

“Cavities, insects that might be traveling up and down your tree, if you have mushrooms growing out of your tree, that is a sign of decay,” he said.

“Things like that, the tree is trying to talk to you and tell you something.”
