Hot ashes in metal bucket sparks Miami County garage fire

UPDATE @ 4 p.m.

Fire investigators suspect a metal bucket with hot ashes placed in the garage earlier could be to blame for a morning fire that destroyed the garage and vehicle inside.

A resident of the home had cleaned out a wood burning stove inside the house sometime before the fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. today at the detached garage in the 400 block of North Main Street.

Heat from the fire melted a section of vinyl siding on the rear of house. A damage estimate is yet to be determined.

Smoke from the fire could be seen as far away as Troy.]

FIRST REPORT

An unattached garage and a car parked inside were destroyed this morning in a fire in Pleasant Hill.

Pleasant Hill Fire Department along with a neighboring department in Covington responded to a house in the 400 block of North Main Street to quickly battle the flames  around 10:30 a.m., according to Northern Bureau Chief Steve Baker.

There were no injuries but the heat of the fire did melt some siding on the rear of the house.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
