(UPDATE @ 7:35 p.m.): The fire at Perrigo, a Covington company that makes baby formula, likely will shut down the facility temporarily, Covington Fire and Rescue Chief Bart Weer said.

“On arrival we discovered we had a fire contained in the waste disposal system, and it was just a matter of us opening up some chutes to be able to get to that location to suppress the fire,” he said.

Byproduct from the baby formula goes into the disposal system at the plant on Hazel Street. There was believed to be dust in that system that ignited, the chief said.
