NORTHERN BUREAU: Fort Recovery schools begins process to fire coaches accused of murder in Indiana
Crews reported flames were coming from the building in the 1300 block of Covington Avenue when firefighters first arrived on scene around 9 a.m. Monday.
Two people were in the apartment when the fire broke out, however they were able to safely evacuate, firefighters said.
A cat perished in the fire, but there were no other injuries reported.
Smoke was spotted first by plumbers who were in the area and called 911, investigators said.
Fire damage was mainly contained to one unit, however the occupants of all eight units in the building will be displaced because electric service was cut to the building, firefighters said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
FIRST REPORT
Firefighters are battling a fire that broke out in a Piqua apartment building Monday morning, according to initial reports.
The fire was reported around 9 a.m. in a unit of the building in the 1300 block of Covington Avenue.
Initial reports indicate flames were visible when crews first arrived on the scene.
There have been no immediate reports of injuries.
