3 displaced after Christmas Eve apartment fire in Springfield

UPDATE @ 10:45 a.m.:

A woman and two kids are not able to stay in their apartment after it caught fire on Christmas Eve.

The three were inside the apartment on Crossgate Court when it caught fire. However, they were able to get out safely and uninjured after the smoke detectors went off.

Items inside the house are believed to be salvageable, but there is a lot of heat and smoke damage. A lot of the Christmas presents in the apartment were also untouched.

The three will be staying with family members.

The cause and damage estimate is unknown, and the fire remains under investigation.

FIRST REPORT:

Firefighters have responded to reports of fire in an apartment building on Crossgate Court in Springfield Tuesday morning, according to initial reports.

Crews were dispatched to Crossgate Court near Selma Road around 9 a.m. and reported smoke coming from the second floor of the structure, emergency scanner traffic indicates.

There have been no immediate reports of injuries.
