The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine each year.
It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the flu.
According to Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County, this season there are more vaccine options available than ever before. There are trivalent vaccines that protect against three strains of the flu virus and quadrivalent vaccines that protect against four strains. There is a new egg-free vaccine for persons with severe egg allergies. High-dose vaccine is available for persons over 65. For persons that don't like needles there is a nasal mist vaccine and an intradermal vaccine.
