In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month, Fortis College hosted their annual event Saturday giving free cleanings and X-rays to children under the age of 18.
During the Give Kids A Smile event, Fortis College dental hygiene instructors and students work with volunteer dentists and hygienists to provide free dental services to under-served kids.
“By participating in Give Kids A Smile Day, we are filling a critical need in our communities while giving our students hands-on experience, it’s a win-win,” said Emilie Shields, Fortis College Centerville dental assisting director.
This annual event is held to:
- Provide oral health education to caregivers and as many under-served children as possible in the county
- Provide care for and find dental homes for as many under-served children as possible
- Raise awareness among the public and policymakers that access to dental care is a serious problem for many in this country
