Fox, who has been a teacher for 33 years, identified the founding committee members as Bill Howell, Barb Kimmel, Lari Laverne, Sharon Scanlon and Larry O’Donell.
“These folks were a small group of educators with a great idea. They solved problems and overecame obstacles and made it work,” Fox said. “Age and illness has diminshed their strength a bit, but certainly not their spirit or commitment.”
Fox, who has worked with the committee for the past 10 years said the original idea was to have a Hall of Fame that would not only recognize outstanding alumni, but “would support ways for our students to have opportunities to connect with the accomplished graduates of Northridge High School who have been successful in life.”
One of the high school’s favorite graduates, who also happens to be an acclaimed Nashville musician and song writer, will be returning home to perform for the hometown crowd.
Frank Myers, a 1975 graduate of Northridge High, will headline a fund raising show at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 18 at the Northridge High School Auditorium, 2252 Timber Lane.
Myers wrote the Grammy winning country hit “I Swear” which was recorded by John Michael Montgomery. Myers also co-wrote the popular hits “I’m Already There,” “You and I,” and “My Front Porch Looking In.”
“Frank is one of our best known graduates,” Fox said. “We are so lucky that he is loyal to his high school and to his roots in Northridge. When we have special events Frank is always helpful and supportive. He is incredibly generous and honors us all by giving back to his home community.”
Fox added, “Frank has promised to bring with him, to perform, some of his show business friends. Singers Eddy Raven, Billy Montgomery, and Billy Dean have all planned to be a part of the concert. And all of them have promised to be available to sign autographs at the conclusion of the concert.”
Fox said they are asking for a donation of $25. for the “Country on the Ridge” concert, and tickets will be available at the door. “The proceeds from the concert will be used to promote school and student activities,” she said.
According to Fox, “This special concert and the activities centering around this homecoming are available because a loyal group of hard working retired school teachers realize the importance of spotlighting the noble efforts of graduates who have left a positive impression.”
