The line was out the door Saturday for “Furever Yours” free adoption event that included a spay or neuter, initial vaccinations, dog license, microchipping and a rabies vaccination.

“It gives our animals an opportunity to be seen by people in our community who care about them and what we have to offer here at the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center in terms of not only our animals but the services we provide,” said Interim Director Robert Gruhl. “The key for us is getting these animals out of our shelter, out of an environment that’s been stressful and troubling for them and into homes where they can get love.”

Molly Gwathney came into the ARC during the event to adopt her new dog Sarge.

“We just moved from apartment living to a house with 3.5 acres and it was time to expand our family,” she said.

Gwathney said she thinks this event is wonderful, especially with overcrowding at the facility.

“It honestly shows that there’s still compassion in this world and that’s kind of what we need to see, no matter what, people are willing to help out and that’s the most beautiful part about it is that these dogs are going to go home forever and hopefully all have a loving home,” she said.

The center had around 160 animals before Saturday, which is close to capacity. After Saturday’s event, almost all of the adoptable animals were able to find homes.
