Occupants escape smoky Dayton house fire on Wyoming Street

UPDATE @ 6:35 p.m.: The occupants were able to escape without injury from a house fire in the 1000 block of Wyoming Street in Dayton.

One of the occupants in the house at the time of the fire called 9-1-1, Dayton Fire District Chief David Wright said. He estimated four or five people, plus pets, live in the house.

Firefighters were able to determine there was a small fire in the basement, he said. The cause remains under investigation.

Wright estimated the fire caused approximately $3,000 in damage to the structure and contents.

Wyoming Street was closed in both directions for a time because of the fire.

INITIAL REPORT

Heavy smoke was coming from the basement of a Wyoming Street house.

Crews were called around 5:40 p.m. to a fire reported at a two-story house in the 1000 block of Wyoming Street in Dayton.

There are several Dayton fire vehicles on scene.
