Jeni Moore, a Countryside YMCA representative who is organizing the volunteer day, said it will be a chance to help with upkeep at Fort Ancient.
“Fort Ancient has been struggling with donations and this will provide an opportunity to help with the upkeep of a local landmark,” Moore said.
Tasks would include trimming bushes and walkways and repairing a whitewall fence, Moore said.
The project allows teens to show community spirit and bond with other local people, Moore said.
“Teens, more than any other group, show they are willing to help, but often don’t know where to go to help,” Moore said. “This project brings teens and adults together to do some good. It’s always a good time, but a lot of hard work too.”
Adults are also welcome to volunteer for the project.
Moore said she hopes to expand Countryside YMCA’s entry into Make A Difference Day into an entire weekend of activities in the coming years.
Fort Ancient is a state historical park that houses mounds built by Native Americans thousands of years ago for religious ceremonies.
Moore said 50 people have volunteered for the project but she is looking for more help. Anyone interested in volunteering for the day or part of the day can contact her at (513) 932-1424 ext. 233 or e-mail jenimoo@country sideymca.org.
