Testing of the fire alarm system in the new auditorium at Fairmont High School will take place today.

Those who will be on or around the high school campus will hear the alarms, though they should not be alarmed!

Testing will begin at 6:45 a.m. and the system will sound again at 3:30 p.m.

The $10 million project broke ground in July of last year and is expected to be completed soon.

The new auditorium will be 19,200 square feet and has big improvements over the old theater, including more space.

The expanded building will extend closer to Shroyer Road and will include a higher ceiling for “fly space” which community relations manager Kari Basson said was a “huge deal” for the theater program. The height of the new stage will be 50 feet, giving the students more space for production theatrics.

School officials say the fencing is down, the sidewalks are being laid, and they are that much closer to the grand opening of the Fairmont Auditorium.
