A Middletown boy who saved his sister from an alleged attempted carjacking was honored by the Ohio Senate today.

State Sens. William Coley, R-Liberty Twp. and Steve Wilson, R-Maineville, praised the actions of Chance Blue, 8, as he saved his sister Skylar Weaver, 10, from an alleged attempted carjacking on April 25 at the Atrium Medical Center Emergency Room.

“Heroes come in all sizes,” Coley said as the children were recognized in the Ohio Senate chambers at the Statehouse in Columbus.

Coley said he was also proud of the quick action by Middletown police in arresting the suspect.

Wilson said that heroes are people who think about others before their own safety.

Chance was in the backseat of a car at Atrium Medical Center as his grandmother was helping his aunt into the hospital. He said he first thought the man might have been a valet at the hospital because he got into the front seat of the running car.

Police said Chance helped his sister escape from the car as the alleged carjacker was trying to get away with them in the backseat. Their grandmother, Nita Coburn, 69, saw the car moving, chased it and was being dragged as she tried to get into the car.

“This little guy is a hero,” Middletown Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw said. “No question. He pulled his sister out of the car with no concern for his own safety.”

The alleged carjacker, Dalvir Singh, 24, of Middletown, appeared for a preliminary hearing May 3 in Middletown Municipal Court, where he was bound over to a Warren County grand jury.

Singh is being held in the Warren County Jail under a $250,000 bond. He has been charged with two counts of kidnapping, a second-degree felony; grand theft, a fourth-degree felony; assault, a fist-degree misdemeanor; and misdemeanor charge for no operator’s license.
