Horse dies after being hit by car

One of two horses that wandered onto Ohio 380 in Greene County on Monday night was badly injured and had to be put down after being hit by a vehicle.

According to Trooper Ryan Born with the Ohio Highway Patrol post at Xenia, the driver said she saw two horses in the roadway and was unable to avoid them. The horse that was struck suffered a badly broken leg.

A veterinarian was called to the scene and put the horse down.

The collision occurred just south of West Krepps Road, south of Xenia.

The driver and a backseat passenger were not injured, but a front-seat passenger was checked for minor injuries by Spring Valley medics.

The owner of the horses, which got loose for unknown reason, lives nearby on Ohio 380 and came to retrieve the other animal.
