As part of the Kettering Fire Department’s annual hydrant maintenance program, flushing will run for the next two months on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Flushing is done each year to inspect the hydrants and water system for proper operation.
It is not uncommon to notice discolored water after the hydrant flushing. The flushing helps clear the pipes of mineral deposits, which if allowed to accumulate, could affect water quality.
“While crews are working in your area, please remember to run water to check for clarity and refrain from washing laundry until after 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday”, according to Kettering fire officials.
Residents may also notice blue reflector lights that are glued to the street. These aid firefighters in locating hydrants as the fire engine’s headlights pick up the reflectors.
For a current schedule and to see when crews will be flushing in your area, residents can refer to the city of Kettering's website.
