Indoor dog park offers sheltered area for dogs exercise

Sit, Stay, N’Play boards pets, too

The Sit, Stay, N’Play Dog Park is a place where it’s OK for dogs to play ball indoors.

The indoor dog park, dog day care and boarding facility is newly opened. The owner, Wade Rice, said that the idea for an indoor dog park came about on a cold, late autumn day. His golden retriever, Chace, was restless and anxious from being in the house. He wanted some place indoors to play with the dog.

He and his wife, Alison, researched dog parks, markets and locations and decided to bring an indoor dog park to Huber Heights.

The dog park has two indoors spaces, an 8,000 square foot room for large dogs and a 3,000 square-foot space for smaller dogs, that are equipped with balls, agility equipment and a jungle gym for dogs and picnic tables for people.

“It’s dog tested,” Rice said, noting that his dog has enough room to run at full speed when retrieving a ball.

Name of business: Sit, Stay, N' Play Dog Park, LLC

Location: 6121 Brandt Pike, Huber Heights

Owner of business: Wade Rice

What the business does: Sit, Stay, N' Play is an indoor dog park that offers two indoor areas for play. It sells one-day, monthly and annual passes for the park. It also offers doggy daycare and overnight boarding services.

When the business opened: Early September.

What the business offers that makes it stand out: In addition to the indoor dog park area, the business also offers boarding and day care. Each boarding room is 56 square feet and comes furnished with a clean dog bed. The rooms are large enough to accommodate up to three pets at one time if the owner likes keeping the pets together. While the dog is staying at the facility, it may play in one of the indoor parks while being monitored by the staff. Throughout the day, the pets under the Sit, Stay, N'Play's care will be taken outside to go to the bathroom.

How the business started: Rice said the idea for an indoor dog park started one of those rainy November days when he noticed the couple's golden retriever becoming antsy and anxious because the rain had kept him cooped up inside for a couple of consecutive days and not allowed him to expend his copious energy.

“Because my wife and I are in the health field, we know how important daily exercise is to the overall well-being of our lives; and we know the same to be true about our pets,” he said.
