Investigators determine cause of CareSource construction fire

Investigators have determined the cause of a fire at the construction site for the new CareSource building that occurred March 22.

FIRST REPORT: Official: CareSource construction site fire ‘not dangerous’

Workers using a gas-powered saw were cutting metal near a pile of roofing materials, said Andrew Steele, Fire Marshall for the City of Dayton. Sparks from the saw ignited the roofing materials, sparking the blaze which sent a large column of black smoke into the sky, visible from Troy and Beavercreek.

Dayton fire officials said in March, the smoke over downtown looked dramatic, but it was not particularly large of hazardous.

CareSource officials said they didn’t expect the fire to delay the opening of the building, scheduled for 2019.
