Jackknifed trailer, additional crashes on I-70 east

Two additional crashes along Interstate 70 eastbound to the west of an earlier pileup caused traffic backups today.

All lanes of the interstate were opened briefly at about 11 a.m., but then quickly closed again as these additional crashes happened.

A semi-tractor trailer jackknifed into the median at the 51-mile marker. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the truck was approaching the existing backup and couldn’t slow down in time. The driver diverted the truck to the median and it jackknifed. No other cars were involved. As of 12:15 p.m., all lanes were open.

A crash involving several cars has also been reported at about the 58-mile marker, about one mile away from the earlier pileup. As of 12:30 p.m., crews were in the process of cleaning up the crash, and traffic was backed up for several miles.

These crashes are along a section of the highway already backed up with traffic from an earlier 15-vehicle pileup.

That earlier crash was at the 59-mile marker.
