JET program earns national recognition

DAYTON — The Job Experience and Training program at Five Rivers MetroParks is one of four programs nationwide to receive a 2009 MetLife Foundation Award of Excellence for exhibiting excellence in citizenship programming in an after-school/out-of-school environment.

JET is part of the Adventure Central partnership between Five Rivers MetroParks, the OSU Extension and 4-H. The program utilizes resources made available through collaborations to involve 20 to 25 minority youth ages 12-18 in a comprehensive, work-based learning program managed by the Adventure Central team focused in the area of parks-related careers.

Adventure Central helps revitalize the neighborhood and the people living in and around Wesleyan MetroPark.

JET will receive a $1,500 award for being named a Program of Distinction through the Cooperative State Research Education and Extension Service at the United States Department of Agriculture.
