COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A federal judge has upheld a 2004 Ohio law that restricts the use of the abortion-inducing RU-486 pill by making it illegal for doctors to prescribe it after the seventh week of pregnancy.
Planned Parenthood's Cincinnati office, which challenged the law, said it's reviewing Monday's decision and deciding whether to appeal.
U.S. District Court Judge Susan Dlott rejected arguments that the law was unconstitutionally vague and violated a woman's right to choose by forcing her to choose a surgical abortion over the medication.
Lisa Hackley Peterson, spokesman for Ohio's Attorney General, says the ruling confirms the law is clear and overall does not create unconstitutional obstacles.
Dlott left in place a previous court order allowing use of the drug after seven weeks to protect a women's health or life.
