Lori Satchwill is the franchise owner of the new Kona Ice NW Dayton. There are multiple Kona Ice units serving various zip codes across the broader Dayton region, and Kona Ice NW Dayton joins at least two others in the city, Kona Ice of Central Dayton and Kona Ice of Downtown Dayton. Each Kona Ice truck operates within a certain territory, usually determined by zip codes, a Kona Ice spokeswoman said.

Satchwill’s Kona Ice truck is decked out with a tiki hut top and a self-serve “Flavorwave” system, an interactive dispensing system in which customers select from one or more flavors to pour over their shaved ice, the Kona Ice spokeswoman said. She will partner with schools and youth sports leagues throughout her truck’s area to host “Kona Days,” which allow school administrators and organizations to raise money for school-related programs and initiatives.
As Kona Ice trucks book events with these groups, they pledge to give back a percentage of the proceeds from each stop. Nationwide, Kona Ice has donated more than $60 million to community-based organizations since the launch in June 2007, company officials said.

Kona Ice trucks also can be booked for fairs, festivals, corporate events, neighborhood socials, church events and birthday parties. The truck also maintains regular weekday and weekend routes.
“The community’s first taste of our cool treats and colorful truck will keep them coming back for more,” Satchwill said in a release. “It will only be a matter of time before our Kona truck captures the hearts, minds and taste buds of the neighborhoods we serve.”
