Juvenile Court employee resigns amid charges

A Montgomery County Juvenile Court employee has submitted his resignation after being charged with giving alcohol to an underage person in Troy this month.

Timothy Poulos is charged with misdemeanor furnishing alcohol to minors, also called the Keg law, according to Troy police Sgt. Ryan Carsey. Poulos admitted to providing alcohol to a 20-year-old man from Troy when the two met in a hotel room there June 12, according to a police incident report.

The report said the incident was discovered during a traffic stop on West Market Street. Police were searching the area for a subject who attempted to buy a 30-case of beer from a Valero gas station after 2:30 a.m., when beer sales are not permitted.

The clerk told police the young man threw a $20 bill on the counter and ran out with the beer.

Police stopped a vehicle driven by Poulos because they initially suspected his passenger, 20-year-old Gregory Coy, was the suspect in the beer incident. The clerk told police it was not him, according to the report.

During the traffic stop, officers detected alcohol on Coy’s breath.  Poulos then admitted that he met Coy through a “casual encounters” ad on Craigslist and that he had bought beer, which they drank at a hotel. He admitted to police that he knew Coy was not 21, according to the report.

Poulos, 49, of Huber Heights, has been a program manager for the Center of Adolescent Services since 2009. He has worked in the court system for the past 18 years, according to James Cole, court administrator.

Cole confirmed that Poulos submitted his resignation on June 19. The resignation becomes effective July 6.

Meantime, he is working second and third shifts where there is limited contact with staff and juveniles.

The Center for Adolescent Services is a community corrections facility in New Lebanon with 44 beds to house felony juvenile offenders. Coles said Poulos supervised counselors working with troubled youth as a last ditch effort to get them in line before going to a state juvenile institution.

Poulos’s next court date on the alcohol charge is July 3. Coy was cited for underage consumption, according to the police report.
