Laptops, cash stolen from Dayton restaurant

Two laptop computers and a cash register drawer were stolen from a Chinese restaurant on Smithville Road Saturday night.

An employee from a nearby McDonald’s called called police Sunday around 9:30 a.m. when he noticed the front door to the Chinese restaurant had been tampered with. Police subsequently responded to the restaurant — Dragon City at 1048 S. Smithville Rd. — and opened an investigation.

“(It) appeared the suspects focused most of their efforts behind the counter and had pulled items out and dumped them on the floor,” officers noted in a Dayton police report.

The stolen laptops were worth a combined $1,100, according to the restaurant’s owner. Aside from the stolen register drawer, a plastic container of change was also taken.

In all, about $1,280 in items and cash were reported stolen.

About $800 in damage was done to the restaurant.

The owner told police his restaurant has been broken into “numerous” times, according to the report.
