Laura man pleads guilty to sex crimes

A Laura man accused of sexual offenses against a child in the late 1990s pleaded guilty Friday in a Miami County court to 10 felony charges.

Gerald L. Rue Jr, 67, made the pleas in a deal in which prosecutors will recommend 10 years in prison in exchange for pleas to 10 gross sexual imposition charges. The maximum prison time for the 10 charges is 50 years.

Rue was arrested by sheriff's deputies in January, accused of raping a person under age 10 between Sept. 1, 1998, and Aug. 31, 1999. The victim, now an adult, was known to Rue and reported the alleged offenses to sheriff's detectives last year.

Rue agreed Friday to waive a grand jury's consideration of the allegations and plead to the 10 charges in Common Pleas Court. Judge Christopher Gee accepted the pleas, ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for Aug. 6.

A sex offender classification will be determined at sentencing. Gee ordered Rue held without bond until sentencing.
