Learn about poison hemlock

Poison Hemlock is on Ohio’s Noxious Weed list. An upcoming Xenia meeting will deal stopping its spread.

“If you are familiar with Poison Hemlock, then you know it has become a big problem in Greene County,” said Jill O’Banion, the education specialist for the Greene Soil & Water Conservation District.

While Poison Hemlock often is confused with Queen Anne’s Lace it is not the same plant, she said.

“There are definite differences. Poison Hemlock grows much earlier in the year and becomes much taller than Queen Anne’s Lace.”

The 7 p.m. meeting will be held on August 29 in the Trupointe offices at 415 Bellbrook Ave.

The meeting should be of interest to anyone managing roadsides, fence rows, open areas and pastureland, O’Banion said.

Anyone interested in attending the meeting is asked to RSVP to Vickie at (937) 937-382-4407. DIANA BLOWERS, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
