LEBANON — The city will spend $880,000 to extend Homan Road as part of improvements necessary for the opening of a FedEx Ground distribution plant, officials said.
The Fred A. Nemann Company will construct approximately 1,225 feet of roadway and water main to provide access to the Fed Ex Ground facility, said city engineer Darren Owens. The project will also provide road access to approximately 60 acres of additional vacant industrial land in the Lebanon Commerce Center.
Homan Road is located in the southeast corner of the city, in an industrial park off of Kingsview Drive.
The city will be reimbursed for $250,000 from a federal grant it received, said city manager Pat Clements. Construction is scheduled to begin later this month and be completed by the end of the year, Clements said.
“The Homan Road expansion is an important piece to the city’s economic development,” said Mayor Amy Brewer.
Construction began on the 175,000 square foot FedEx Ground distribution center last month. When it is completed next year, the building will employ 130 and bring an expected payroll of $2.2 million annually to Lebanon.
